Patient and Family Experience
All About Play Appeal
Every year, our charity provides more than £400,000 to fund 15 Play and Recreation Facilitators and Workers who support over 250 children and families every single day. Your support helps us to continue this year-on-year.
Happy minds, better recovery
We believe children who are happy and relaxed cope better with their treatment and recover a lot quicker than those who are more anxious. Play allows children to express their feelings, ask questions about their condition and also have fun.

This dedicated team is an essential part of a patient’s recovery, personal development and overall experience. Each play worker forms close relationships with patients and parents, putting them all at ease to bridge the gap between the nurses and doctors, helping them to understand their treatment and illness. They bring arts and crafts, role play, games, stories and much, much more to kids of every age, often working one-on-one to provide a diversion from difficult, uncomfortable or upsetting situations.
Many of our sick kids will spend a large part of their childhood with us, so our play team also helps to organise special celebrations, like marking birthdays or religious festivals. These celebrations give our children and their families something to look forward to and the chance to make happy, lasting memories.
Help us raise the £400,000 needed every year bring play to our brave children. Your gift will make a big difference, allowing them to be children first and patients second.
